PAT CLIFTON

Content Director & Rugby Journalist

Someone has to lead this motley crew into the content wars and you’d be hard pressed to find a better captain than Pat Clifton. NCR’s new Content Director is one of the most experienced rugby journalists in America, which is kind of like winning a pie eating contest at a convention for the gluten-intolerant or finishing first in the 100-yard dash at an elementary school field day as a fully grown adult – two things that Pat may or may not have also done. To earn that distinction, Pat wrote and edited for the publications RUGBY Magazine and Rugby Today full-time for a decade, experience that helped in launching the newest digital rugby magazine, College Rugby Illustrated. Pat has also written for Premier Rugby 7s and NCR, serving as 7s director and tournament director of the Collegiate Rugby Championship from 2021-2025. At the 2025 CRC Pat helmed the first-ever live, on-location broadcast of The College Rugby Show. Outside of his time serving as the voice of a rugby generation, Pat is heavily involved in growing the sport at the grassroots level, coaching and administrating high school, college and club rugby for 17 years, serving as the head coach and director of rugby for Kansas City Rugby Football Club since 2018. He is also a collector and connoisseur of vintage rugby swag, so if you know of any good deals send them his way.

Darian Lovelace

All-American, Broadcaster & Coach

Darian Lovelace was once bitten by a King Cobra. After two days of excruciating pain, the snake died. Ghosts sit around a campfire and tell Darian Lovelace stories. Death once had a near-Darian Lovelace experience. The former AIC star, Life University captain and All-American out of Naples, Florida, who learned the game under legendary coach Rosalind Chou, certainly left her mark on college rugby – as well as most of her opponents’ bodies. The bruising back-rower then parlayed two CRC 7s national championships, a CRC MVP award, a dominant XV’s career, and an MA Sorensen award nomination into a stint with team Team in Premier Rugby 7s and an All-Star turn in the Women’s Premier League with the Atlanta Harlequins – while working full-time as a radiation therapist. On top of that, she has begun to make her way into coaching with the U23 Reapers and is heavily involved with youth sports in Atlanta. Just for funsies, Darian has also cultivated a flourishing career in broadcasting – tackling cliché’s in the broadcast booth for the WPL much like she tackled her opponents on the pitch: making sure they were never heard of again. She has now agreed to join the TCRS team – mostly to make Zach look bad – but also to help spread the word about the sport she loves and the people who play it. Someday they’ll try to carve Darian Lovelace’s face into rugby’s Mount Rushmore, but it won’t be an accurate likeness … because the granite isn’t tough enough.

Zach Lanning

Rugby Writer & Media Creator

It’s been said that those who can’t play rugby, administrate. And those who can’t hack it as an administrator, make content. But that’s just how Zach Lanning – second most famous person to come out of Montclair, NJ, after Buzz Aldrin – wants it to be. He’s delighted to be able to seamlessly blend his various rugby experiences with the skills he’s developed over a decade-long career in both television and print media. In terms of his playing career, it began as a schoolboy in London, England, followed by four years at Saint Peter’s Preparatory School, a Jesuit high school across the Hudson River from Xavier. He then played all four years at The College of the Holy Cross, where he served as Club President his junior year and helped to grow the sport’s footprint on campus. All of these stops allowed Zach to experience the game from a number of different vantage points, and gave him an unparalleled love for the oval ball – just not necessarily the wherewithal to know what to do with it. Throughout his playing career, and during his William Henry Harrisson-esque tenure as the men’s Division III commissioner, Zach relished any chance he got to write about or talk about rugby and is beyond thrilled to have been given the opportunity to focus his efforts on doing so professionally.
